The Oily Marks and Life’s Surprises

I made this when I was in high school. It was eleventh or the twelfth grade and I was taking Advanced Studio Art class from a very good teacher I loved. Every class, we had the abundance of materials, pencils, paints, inks, papers, cardboards, brushes, anything you could think of. Everyone was very talented and worked on their projects while listening to the songs from our teacher’s playlist. Everyone was at their own pace and own imagination. I was working with a blue coloring pencil only, on a gray sketch paper.

I don’t know how much you can see from this picture but it is actually a close-up of jeans. I loved playing with the shadows and the folding areas with one color only. I worked on this painting/drawing for weeks with patience and joy.

After weeks of hard work I came to the class and took out the painting from the cupboards we all used to store our work when we leave the class. There were big oily drops

Kağıttan kar tanesi yapabildik mi?? – Video

Does Santa Claus exist? – Noel Baba gerçek mi?

I believed in Santa Claus until I was in third grade. Santa – Noel Baba – as I called him, would bring Ovgu and me presents every new year.  Jan 1st mornings Ovgu and I would search for our presents and sometimes it would be under our pillows or the small tree in the living room. Sometimes we would get presents even during the year, because we were good children (Thanks mom!). That was enough of a reason to realize something was off, but I was young and naive and happy to hear that I was a good child.

One day I was sitting in the class and I wondered what Santa brought to my desk mate. It was a couple days later than the New Years day.

-Mehmet, what did Noel Baba bring to you?

-Noel Baba? There is no such thing! Your parents lied to you!

While he was laughing, I understood that he was a Continue reading

When You Lose Someone… A Simple Mathematical Consolation

Writing in another language gives a freedom of expression and discovery. Although it is perfectly fine and possible to express and discover in your native language, you are tied to the words and meanings.

Sometimes a little detachment can offer new forms of attachments.

Life wants us to make sense of what is going on and sometimes it gets hard. Continue reading
